Do I need a Lawyer?

Agreements drafted by mediators are not legally binding. The mediator would develop the “Memorandum of Understanding” which is the document that summarizes the couple’s agreement. This document is then sent to and reviewed by both lawyers to become the legal separation agreement, which then becomes legally binding. If the individuals do not have legal counsel, the mediator can provide referrals.

It is strongly advised that lawyers are involved in the mediation process earlier rather than later as this keeps all professionals abreast of the progression.
